Victor: (Faints after seeing the giant corpse man he has created)

The Creature: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.

How are you gonna complain that Nosferatu was too sexual as if Gothic literature didn't originate from social rebellion? As if Bram Stoker's novel didn't have sexual undertones? As if Nosferatu didn't have sexual undertones already? I understand if you didn't expect such upfront sexuality, but don't hate on the movie for it. If it's not for you, that's okay! Taboo topics aren't for everyone; Just remember that Gothic literature is meant to be taboo. A social rebellion. Expressing the dark, barbaric, animalistic, and shunned aspects of human nature. I haven't watched the film YET; But I have taken a course SPECIFICALLY on Gothic literature {and passed}, read Bram Stoker's Dracula, watched both original Nosferatu's multiple times, and immersed myself in Gothic literature for a while now. Gothic horror IS sexual in its essence. It's grotesque and disgusting. Revolting and shameful. That's the point. It's also sensual, emotional, despondent, and FULL of metaphors. It’s EROTIC. If the genre isn't for you, or if certain aspects aren't for you, that's okay. Everyone has their limits, everyone deserves their boundaries.

Adam Frankenstein

(a.k.a. The Creature)

2.5 (?) - he/him - 8"0 - Pisces

After burning down the DeLacey's family cottage, the creature saves the life of a woman after she nearly drowns in a river rapid, but he's shot by her male companion and fleas further into the woods. Injured and alone he resolves to find his creator to demand justice, but his plans change when the woman he saved returns to thank him. Now he finds himself in unfamiliar territory with someone who isn't afraid of his appearance and wants to be his friend.

Evelyn Shaw

23 - she/her - 5"5 - Scorpio

Having grown up in a remote farming community, Evelyn only had her siblings and books for escape from the dullness of her day to day life. Possessing a passionate and independent soul, she never thought she'd meet someone who understood her. But that all changes when she falls into a river and is saved by a mysterious man with piercing yellow eyes. Knowing he's somewhere out there terribly injured she sets out to thank him for rescuing her.

So Here Me Out, If Victor's Description Of The Creature As Beautiful When He Was Making Him Is True,

So here me out, if Victor's description of the creature as beautiful when he was making him is true, and Walton’s description of the creature as a hideous monster upon seeing him at the end of the novel is true, perhaps the creature’s appearance changes as a reflection of how he’s treated.

I believe that the creature appears hauntingly beautiful (as beautiful an 8ft man made from the body parts of dead people could be) when he’s brought into the world, but as he faces constant rejection from mankind and is treated as a monster, his looks begin to reflect his perception of himself. And as his innocence is corrupted and he chooses to act like the monster society sees him as, the creature’s appearance gradually degrades. By the end of Frankenstein, he’s killed four people in his quest for acceptance and has trekked through the arctic, so he looks just like the wretched daemon that Victor always said he was.

…this all to ask, if he was treated with kindness and love would he slowly start to look more human?

Like, here's how I think a conversation with these two would go:

Victor: So that's how my whole life was ruined by a vile monster created by my hand.

Prometheus, currently chained to a rock in the middle of the sea so dipshits like Victor could progress and think for themselves: ... I wonder if the eagle can peck out my brain this time...

Ok so hot take, but I don't like the phrase "Modern Prometheus" when describing Victor Frankenstein. Because unlike Victor, Prometheus actually cared about his creations (humanity) and sought to protect them (gave them fire). And when he was found out by Zeus, he took responsibility for his actions, but didn't apologize for doing what he thought was right. Sure Victor created life, but he abandoned it for looking at him funny.

Okay so I just thought of an idea for a TV show based on Frankenstein where it follows the creature on his journey as he learns about the world, but it focuses on his appearance, specifically his body parts.

Like each episode would be about a different body part that Victor used to make him and it cuts between present day with the creature and the past with the person that body part originally belonged to. The episode goes on to show what that person's life was like, how they acted, and eventually how they died.

For example: the creature's hands belonged to a poor, but talented painter and the episode focuses on the creature using his hands (building shelter, making fire, drawing in the dirt with a stick, etc).

Or the creature's face/head belonged to a beautiful male prostitute and the episode shows the similarities/contrast with how he was treated and how the creature is treated.

Father And Son

Father and Son

I wanted to show the sheer scale of the creature compared to the average height of people in the Victorian era, so I drew my take on Victor! And, yes, I did use Timothée Chalamet as a reference because no matter what Guillermo del Toro would have me believe, Victor Frankenstein is a skinny, dehydrated college rat in my mind (this was intended as a complement to Timothée I truly think he would crush this role).
